Welcome
to the Summer/Fall online edition of The Next Step, North
Carolina’s substance abuse newsletter. Partnership
for a Drug-Free NC, Inc. receives funding from the NC
Department of Health and Human Services to create and distribute
this quarterly publication.
As we strive to understand, prevent, and
treat substance abuse, it’s important to be informed. Our goal
at The Next Step is to let you know the issues. We will
do our best to provide information that is useful to clinicians,
administrators, educators, community leaders, and citizens of
North Carolina. To keep this online newsletter concise, in many
cases we will introduce a topic, provide general information,
and then point you toward the sources that can address the
details.
2006 Topics and
the Current Edition – Substance Abuse in the Workplace
Because we know that virtually everyone has
some sort of a tie to someone who struggles with addiction, the
four 2006 editions provide a 360 degree view of the
relationships we have with substance abusers. The Winter issue
looked at teens and young adults who use substances. The
Spring/Summer edition focused on the individuals in romantic
relationships with someone who abuses alcohol and/or drugs. In
this issue we tackle the topic of substance abuse and the
workplace. And finally, at the end of the year we will explore
how other family members are affected by a substance abusers
addiction.
